MSU, Taube galleries host joint exhibition | News, Sports, Jobs

May 11, 2021 Submitted Art Mack Schroer’s Big Lebowski is a mixed media piece in the “Pop Cars” collection. Two vibrant, pop culture-infused exhibitions went on display today at a joint show of the Taube Museum of Art and the Northwest Arts Center at Minot State University. A public reception will be held Thursday. The display includes Mack Schroer’s illustrated “Pop Cars” and “Wild Rides” posters, curated from the private collection of Laurie Geller. On display until June 8, the exhibition is split evenly between the two galleries with a unique view at each location. “Pop Cars” began in early 2018 as a single doodle of Homer Simpson on a driver’s daily log sheet. With the computer system down at a salt water disposal site, Schroer, an oil field trucker at the time, resorted to using a hand-kept ledger on Keller’s Daily Logs. Scrawled etch-a-sketch lines became a cityscape that soon beckoned a portrait of Homer Simpson.

How North Dakota State prepared 49ers Trey Lance for the NFL

SANTA CLARA, Calif. As an eighth-round pick in 1977, Randy Hedberg departed a small school in North Dakota and walked into one of the toughest situations a young quarterback could face. Hedberg, the first NFL player drafted from Minot State, was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a franchise born a year earlier and one that had gone 0-14 in its inaugural season. Hedberg was expected to acclimate slowly as quarterbacks Mike Boryla and Gary Huff battled for the starting job with a returning Parnell Dickinson also on the roster. None of that happened, though, as Boryla and Huff suffered knee injuries in the first two preseason games and Dickinson struggled with turnovers. Suddenly, Hedberg found himself starting for the worst team in the league with no time to adjust. The results were predictable. He started four games, played in three more and finished with no touchdowns and 10 interceptions as the Bucs lost all seven contests.

He’s also glad that his family and friends will be there to help him celebrate this year. Minot State’s 106th Commencement Exercise will be live with limited capacity starting at 10 a.m. Friday in the MSU Dome. MSU will honor its 2021 and 2020 graduating classes at the ceremony as 2020’s live event was canceled due to COVID-19.
