For the second year, the Guerrilla Collective will host the Black Voices in Gaming stream. This is a livestream dedicated to Black voices in the gaming world. That includes Black developers showcasing their games, games featuring Black protagonists, and more. This will be one of the first events of a long June filled with news and reveals and you can check out the whole thing live.

The Black Voices in Gaming livestream will air on
Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. It will immediately follow the Guerrilla Collective s opening livestream two hours prior, airing live on Twitch. You can also watch the show through the helpful embed above. Specifics for this year s show have not been given, though the team at Media Indie Exchange (The MIX) recently issued a Twitter shoutout to a number of Black creators, recognizing games like Aerial Knight s Never Yield, She Dreams Elsewhere, Treachery in Beatdown City, Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Braw
Speaking with
GamesIndustry.biz recently, the Detroit-based developer doesn t shy from sharing this fact when talking about his motivation for developing Never Yield, which launched on all major platforms this month.
He was told repeatedly by studios that he wasn t good enough to be hired. Despite this, his journey led him to be featured on Nintendo s Indie World showcase this past April.
Jones story echoes that of many who are unable to break into the industry. It also speaks to the fact that Black people only account for 2% of the industry, as reported by the IGDA.
He shares that he was frustrated as the industry just wasn t welcoming to him. So, he decided to develop Never Yield entirely by himself as a last hurrah.

The Media Indie Exchange unveiled its Black Voices in Gaming Freshman Class, a list which aims at highlighting and celebrating the work of Black developers in the industry.
The initiative focuses on developers who have a game releasing in 2021/22, but will return every year with new entries.
The inaugural list features 14 games, including Kena: Bridge of Spirits from developer Ember Lab, Neil Jones Aerial Knight s Never Yield (which released earlier this week), and An Airport For Aliens Currently Run by Dogs by Xalavier Nelson Jr. You can see the full list below.
Talking to Axios, Neil Jones who led the initiative alongside The MIX co-founder Justin Woodward highlighted the importance of building a community for Black developers.
