NJ author shares powerful, and practical, story of caring for mom with Alzheimer’s Updated 8:54 AM; Today 8:00 AM Dr. Barbara Ella Milton Jr. of Secaucus, a retired clinical social worker, holds a picture of her with her mom (at left in photo). (Reena Rose Sibayan | The Jersey Journal) Facebook Share “Daughters care for their mothers. It is the great cycle of life.” That’s what Dr. Barbara Ella Milton Jr. of Secaucus writes in her new book, describing her thoughts in late 2015 when she realized her mother was descending into dementia and could no longer care for herself. “Heeding the Caregiver Call: The Story of Barbara Ella Milton Sr. and Alzheimer’s Disease” (Xlibris) is much more, though, than the recounting of the age-old, often heroic and heart-wrenching role reversal.

Cast your vote: Hanwell for Cape school board

Laura Willey-Brittingham May 6, 2021 I am casting my vote for Janis Hanwell for Cape Henlopen school board. My family has known her since she first came to Cape Henlopen School District to teach at Milton Junior High. When my own daughters went through Cape, she was an administrator at the district office and was always there for me if needed. Just like when she was employed by Cape, Janis still supports parents’ efforts to make sure their children receive a high-quality education with the resources they need to excel.  As a current board member, she is always pushing for a rigorous academic curriculum, the best instructional leaders, a fair disciplinary system, and solid career pathways that will prepare students to be successful and productive adults in whatever field they choose. Janis is also committed to making sure the district provides the supports and programs necessary to close the achievement gap, and while there is still work to be done, observable gains ha

A vote for Khalil (Karl) Saliba is a vote for all

Nancy and William W. (Bill) Collick May 7, 2021 My wife Nancy and I would like to lend our support for Khalil (Karl) Saliba as a candidate for the Lewes City Council. Our family has known the Salibas (Dr. Anis, wife Sue, son Karl and sister Nada) for some 40 years. During that time, it was obvious that the foundation with which Karl was so fortunate to be raised in was one of inclusiveness, fairness and respect for all. Ask anyone who may have spent time in Lewes and they will tell you that as it relates to the Salibas - everybody was somebody, and it did not matter if it was in his office, as a doctor, or in his and Sue’s home as a neighbor or friend.
