Middleboro s Burkland School has a new assistance dog named Prince

MIDDLEBORO  Prince the Labrador retriever, who works as an assistance dog at Henry B. Burkland Elementary School, has only been on the job for a few weeks, but he s already popular.  On a late Friday morning, a class of first graders huddled around him the moment he reached the playground and asked if they could pet him. They remarked how soft he was, called him a good boy and asked his handler, adjustment counselor Erin Doak, if they could have him as their pet.  He just puts smiles on everyone s face, she said. To me, he s definitely doing his job.

Residents along South Coast Rail hearing more train horns Here s why

Johnny Cash used to sing that he could “hear the train a’comin” and now those living near – even not so near – the South Coast Rail construction sites are finding themselves singing the same tune.  Some on social media believed the horns are being heard further away from the tracks because of trees that have been cleared along tracks and right of ways where equipment is being brought in for the massive commuter rail construction project.  However, Joe Pesturo, communications director at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, said he doesn’t believe that s why more residents are hearing the train horns.
