welcome back to the cnn newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington. we begin with joe biden heading off to poland tomorrow. he will deliver a message of solidarity just a few days ahead of the one-year anniversary of russia s full-blown invasion of ukraine. he will reaffirm support for that country. this comes on the heels of the munich security conference where the u.s. staked out some hard-nosed positions, accusing russia of war crimes and warning china not to give russia lethal aid. we saw the vice president, secretary of state tony blinken all delivering these messages to russia and china. tell us more. reporter: and white house officials have said it s a crucial time as we hit that one-year mark of russia invading ukraine. and joe biden will mark that with his trip starting tomorrow in poland. and during that time, he plans to reinforce the unity and support behind ukraine. now, he will be meeting with the polish president during his visit there, as well as a group of nato
what happened? erica, this happened so fast. it s stunning. silicon valley bank shut down by california regulators after the stock crashed by 60% yesterday after the bank said it needed to rapidly raise cash. this is easily the biggest bank failure since washington mutual fell apart in 2008 during the financial crisis. silicon valley bank, if you haven t heard of it, it is a major lender to tech start-ups. the fdic says that depositors that have $250,000 or less, they are insured here. they will get their money. they will get access to their money as soon as monday morning. but we know that some people, some entities, some start-ups, they have more than $250,000, and it s less clear what s going to happen to them. how did this happen? well, when the fed spikes interest rates, things tend to break. we know that the fed rate hikes have hurt the valuation of the tech companies that this bank catered to, also has hurt the value of the bonds that banks rely on to get cash. erica
place between two rival factions of the military. gunfire and explosions rocked the capital khartoum. the sudanese military has ordered citizens to remain inside amid clashes at the presidential palace and the city s airport. the two sides are in dispute over who governs the country. sudan has been run by the military since a coup in october 2021. a journalist from the washington post newspaper reported 30 people dead and nearly 400 injured, citing the united nations. at least two of the dead are reported at khartoum international airport. earlier, footage there showed large plumes of smoke and fighterjets flying low overhead. and this video from inside the khartoum airport shows passengers taking cover on the floor. major airlines have reportedly suspended flights. un secretary general antonio guterres has denounced the clashes, with a spokesperson saying: he spoke with sudan s abdel fattah al burhan and rsf leader general mohamed hamdan dagalo, also known as hemedti, and i
