IRON MOUNTAIN Over the past several months detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) were investigating an Iron Mountain resident for the distribution of crystal methamphetamine. The investigation led to a search warrant at a residence in Iron Mountain on the evening of January 6.
The search warrant resulted in the seizure of several grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, cash, electronic devices, and evidence of drug distribution. Daniel Droese, 32 years old male of Iron Mountain, and Stephanie Motto, 33 years old female of Iron Mountain, were arrested at the residence and lodged at the Dickinson County Jail on numerous drug related charges.
BATES TOWNSHIP, MI An Iron County Road Commission worker was killed while working in Bates Township Wednesday.
Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. to Bates-Amasa Road near Shady Lane. They say a 57-year-old Wisconsin man in a pickup failed to stop in a marked work zone. He hit a road commission flagger, pinning him between his truck and a road commission vehicle.
The flagger died at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River and later airlifted to Wausau, Wisconsin for further treatment.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

HARDWOOD Troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post have released the names of two people killed in an explosion in Hardwood, in Dickinson County.
At approximately 9:50 a.m. Thursday, troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded to a residence on Fordville Road in Hardwood for a report of a large explosion. The homeowners, Roy Kline, age 78, and MaryAnn Kline, age 66, were pronounced dead at the scene.
HARDWOOD Two people died Thursday after a home exploded in Hardwood in Dickinson County.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post responded to a report of a large explosion at a residence on Fordville Road. The bodies of two victims of the fire and explosion were found at the scene.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims at this time, and an investigation into the cause of the explosion and fire is ongoing.
Troopers at the scene were assisted by STAR Ambulance, Breen Township Fire Department, and Fletch Township Fire Department.
