Main Street to host Seniors on Tour event

Main Street to host Seniors on Tour event Chillicothe News In conjunction with Historic Preservation Month which is all the month of May, Main Street Chillicothe is hosting a Seniors on Tour . This is a downtown leisurely walking tour for senior citizens to be taken on a guided tour which will be led by Kirsten Mouton of the Livingston County Library, according to a press release from Main Street Chillicothe s Executive Director, Pam Jarding.  This tour will start at Silver Moon Plaza, 707 Webster St., at 10 a.m. on May 20, with coffee and donuts. Then the tour will begin. Our goal for this event is to learn about the history behind the downtown historical buildings and see the beautiful murals, Jarding said.

Century Farms deadline extended to June 1 Published by admin on Wed, 05/12/2021 - 12:08pm In recognition of the Missouri Bicentennial, University of Missouri Extension will extend this year’s Century Farm application deadline to June 1. “With our partners the Missouri Farm Bureau and the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, we want to be sure every eligible farm family has an opportunity to apply in this special year as we celebrate Missouri’s 200th year of statehood,” said Marshall Stewart, MU vice chancellor for extension and engagement. To qualify, the same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years. The current owner must be the children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews or nieces including through marriage or adoption of the original settler.

My Missouri 2021 Traveling Photo Exhibition

Event Description In celebration of the Missouri Bicentennial anniversary, the traveling photo exhibition “My Missouri 2021” is currently on display at the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library. The project includes sixteen eight-foot-tall panels which feature a selection of 200 images taken by photographers across the state, which capture the physical and cultural landscape of Missouri in all four seasons. The exhibit can be viewed Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the library’s main branch from May 13 through June 1. © 2021 KRCU

BDHS Presents Missouri: The Struggle for Statehood on May 24

Hits: 293  The State of Missouri turns 200 years old in 2021, and The Boone Duden Historical Society is hosting the program, “Missouri: The Struggle for Statehood” by Dr. Gary McKiddy in May. At the program, Dr. Gary McKiddy will discuss the issues facing citizens when they petitioned Congress to become a state. These issues put Missouri at the center of a national debate and, at one point, almost split the territory into multiple states. Dr. Gary McKiddy is an educator with over 40 years teaching experience middle school through college in the U.S. and overseas. In St. Charles County, he taught at St. Charles West, St. Charles High, and at the St. Charles County Community College. He is a past president of the Missouri Council for History Education and the St. Charles County Historical Society. His recent activities include developing curriculum for the Missouri Bicentennial and for Black History Month.
