The State of Missouri turns 200 years old in 2021, and The Boone Duden Historical Society is hosting the program, “Missouri: The Struggle for Statehood” by Dr. Gary McKiddy in May.
At the program, Dr. Gary McKiddy will discuss the issues facing citizens when they petitioned Congress to become a state. These issues put Missouri at the center of a national debate and, at one point, almost split the territory into multiple states.
Dr. Gary McKiddy is an educator with over 40 years teaching experience middle school through college in the U.S. and overseas. In St. Charles County, he taught at St. Charles West, St. Charles High, and at the St. Charles County Community College. He is a past president of the Missouri Council for History Education and the St. Charles County Historical Society. His recent activities include developing curriculum for the Missouri Bicentennial and for Black History Month.
