MORGAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) - There are currently 21 capital murder cases pending in Morgan County. Thatâs part of why District Attorney Scott Anderson says it could take a couple of years for the Valhermoso Springs septuple homicide case to go to trial.

An 8-month-old girl who police say was beaten and tortured by a Decatur man died Monday after brain activity ceased and she was taken off life support, according to the Morgan County coroner.
The girl had been in critical condition at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham since early Wednesday morning after Decatur police say she was assaulted late last Tuesday night by Cameron Almen Elliott, 22, 1839 Brownstone St. Elliott was initially charged with second-degree assault and various drug charges, and was being held in Morgan County Jail in lieu of $260,000 bail.

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - A Morgan County man found guilty of capital murder in November received a life sentence on Wednesday.
Judge Jennifer Howell sentenced Roger Stevens to life in prison without the possibility of parole on December 16.
The victim in the shooting was his ex-wife Kay Stevens. Kay’s niece Edie and District Attorney Scott Anderson both spoke during the sentencing hearing on Wednesday.
