MOUNT HOPE - A husband shot and killed his wife and then took his own life in their home on Mount Hope Road Wednesday morning, according to state police.
Police said both the husband and wife were suffering from medical issues and appeared to be dealing with substantial pain.
They were identified by police as James Russell Claybrook, 84, and Marcia Reitman Currie, 70.
According to state police, Claybrook called police at 10:19 a.m. Wednesday, identified himself as Russell Claybrook and said there might be someone inside his home.
State police and Mount Hope town police responded to the home.
The first responding officers entered the home and found Currie lying dead in bed in a rear bedroom. Claybrook was dead on the floor of the same room. There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle, police said.

An elderly married couple were found dead in their New York home in what officials believe may have been a murder-suicide.
Police responded to a home in the Hudson Valley town of Mount Hope Wednesday morning after a man called to report a possible burglary happening, state police said. The caller identified himself as Russell Claybrook, and claimed that someone may have been inside his home on Mount Hope Road. New York State Police and town police entered the home and found a woman who had died in a bed in a rear bedroom. On the floor next to the bed she was found in was a man who had also died.
