Transport and Main Roads North Coast Regional Director Scott Whitaker said the project would significantly improve the traffic flow and capacity of the Maroochydore Road and Mons Road interchanges. The traffic will improve particularly during peak times, as well as meet the future needs of the Sunshine Coast, Mr Whitaker said. Work on a new four-lane bridge over the highway at Nambour is set to begin in coming weeks as part of the upgrades. A concrete bridge will also be constructed featuring an on-road bike lane and a 3m shared pedestrian path to improve safety. The majority of work will be undertaken at night to minimise disruption to motorists and traffic flow.
There were six traffic infringement notices issued.

Sunshine Coast district acting Inspector Shane Panoho said on Thursday the sting was set up to reinforce the damaging effects of drink and drug driving.
“This shows that anywhere, anytime, you can expect to see police on our roads,” Insp Panoho said.
“We can pop up near industrial locations, residential or major arterials.
“We are tired of having to go to serious road crashes, where people’s loved ones are being harmed, injured or killed.”

It comes after a similar operation on the Bruce Highway at the Glasshouse Mountains last week when more than 700 motorists were subject to a roadside test.
Of those, 16 people recorded positive readings for drug and alcohol.
Unlike the Bruce Highway sting where motorists were diverted off the highway, the Maroochydore Rd operation will be done at random.
