With COVID-19 cases on the rise in the region, the Grand Traverse County Health Department has instructed all Grand Traverse County school districts to pause in-person learning and offer virtual instruction for one week for secondary schools, beginning Tuesday.
All Traverse City Area Public Schools high schools and middle schools will pause in-person learning for one week. In-person instruction will resume on Monday, April 12.
Students in the MICI and PASS programs will also go virtual. TCAPS Montessori sixth grade students are part of the school’s elementary school program and will continue face-to-face instruction.
School meals will be available at each TCAPS secondary school building from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As COVID case numbers continue to rise, testing becomes an important tool – especially after Spring Break in northern Michigan.
Many Michiganders hit the road or took to the skies for Spring Break – but health officials have warned that traveling increases your risk of catching the coronavirus.
Dr. Michael Collins is the Grand Traverse County Health Department’s Medical Director. He says, “Any sign of symptoms that are consistent with COVID, it’s important to get tested… so that you know if it’s COVID and you need to isolate yourself for 10 days.”

TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan â February 2020 seems like a long time ago to Josh Rothwell.
The superintendent at Forest Area Community Schools, a district in northern Michigan, only had to worry about a flu outbreak knocking down about a quarter of his student population and a good chunk of his staff back then. Rothwell said the flu was dropping his students like flies.
