Anonymous donor gives $1 million for Bainbridge Island bike trails

Anonymous donor gives $1 million for Bainbridge Island bike trails Published  BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. - New mountain bike trails are coming to Bainbridge Island, thanks to an anonymous donor. The Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation has purchased 10 acres of land next to Strawberry Hill Park after receiving a $1 million donation, according to Mary Meier, the foundation’s executive director. The gift was made to buy the land for mountain bike use, expand the existing dog park and for land conservation, the Seattle Times reported. The property will be transferred to the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District to oversee planning for the project. The Park District will also build the bike course and manage the parcel as a public park.

Lines drawn over new biking trails in Bainbridge s Grand Forest North

View Comments BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – In the Grand Forest North, dog walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers make their way through a loop around the edge of the quiet, forested property. The conversations, debates and campaigning set off by a proposal to build new trails on the Bainbridge Island parkland, though, have been anything but low-key. The Bainbridge Island Mountain Biking Club has been pushing for new mountain biking trails to be added to the 32-acre property at the corner of Koura Road and Miller Road and on Thursday floated an updated proposal that would see three new trails totaling about a mile in length built through the central part of the forest. Previously, the club had suggested five trails and a “skill zone” area for training but has scaled back that proposal.
