BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – In the Grand Forest North, dog walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers make their way through a loop around the edge of the quiet, forested property. The conversations, debates and campaigning set off by a proposal to build new trails on the Bainbridge Island parkland, though, have been anything but low-key.
The Bainbridge Island Mountain Biking Club has been pushing for new mountain biking trails to be added to the 32-acre property at the corner of Koura Road and Miller Road and on Thursday floated an updated proposal that would see three new trails totaling about a mile in length built through the central part of the forest. Previously, the club had suggested five trails and a “skill zone” area for training but has scaled back that proposal.
