Austin could see up to 4 inches of rainfall Wednesday, forecasters say

In what might be the most significant rain event of Austin s spring so far this year, the area could record a total of up to 4 inches of rainfall over the next few days, the National Weather Service said. After a round of showers Tuesday night, the Austin area will get a second dose of showers on Wednesday and thunderstorms later that night, forecasters said. Some of the storms will be severe and could bring hail larger than 2 inches in diameter, gusty winds at speeds of up to 60 mph and the threat of an isolated tornado to Central Texas. Storms that develop during the day in Del Rio and San Angelo will congeal, forming a line that will land in Austin by about 8 p.m., weather service meteorologist Monte Oaks said.
