REVEALED: Lidl Bromley Cross plans backed by Bolton councillors

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new Lidl supermarket, 43 retirement apartments, four football pitches and a 91-space commuter car park for Bromley Cross train station have been backed by councillors. Bolton Council’s planning committee heard the application for the proposed development at the derelict former Holland Garden Centre off Darwen Road, Bromley Cross and green belt land to the rear. The 27-acre site chosen for the new discount supermarket, with a car park for 125 vehicles, is partially located within the green belt and part of it is considered to be a site of biological importance . The plans also include a retirement living development of 43 apartments for over 55-year-olds, a mix of one and two-bedroom flats, together with a 37-space car park.

An Aberdeen teenager hid from police by lying down in a stream and then gave officers two false names to evade capture. Ellis Leisk defied a bail order barring him from leaving his home between 7pm and 7am to attend a party. The 19-year-old college student appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted breaching bail and attempting to pervert the course of justice by giving two fake names to police. Fiscal depute Susan Love told the court police were called on the city’s Woodburn Gardens in the early hours of Sunday morning.
