Three Hefajat leaders were placed on remand, on different terms, today in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over the 2013 mayhem and the recent violence in Dhaka.
The leaders are Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organising secretary of Hefajat s now-dissolved committee; Maulana Jubair Ahmed, former vice-president of its Dhaka City unit, and Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, former assistant general secretary.
Azizul was placed on a seven-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over March 26 violence centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while Jubair was placed on a six-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over the 2013 mayhem and the recent violence in Dhaka.

Four Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were placed on remand yesterday in seven cases filed with police stations in the capital and Chattogram over the 2013 mayhem and the recent violence in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The leaders are: Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organising secretary of Hefajat s now dissolved committee; Maulana Jubair Ahmed, former vice-president of its Dhaka city unit, and Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, former assistant general secretary, and Mufti Harun Izhar, education and cultural affairs secretary of the dissolved central committee.

Awami League s Faridpur town unit organising secretary Jafar Iqbal Haroon Mandal was shown arrested today in a Tk 2,000 crore money laundering case.
Jafar is also cousin of Sajjad Hossain alias Barkat, the principal accused of the case and also former general secretary of AL s Faridpur town unit.
Metropolitan Magistrate Masud Ur Rahman passed the order after Uttam Kumar Biswas, assistant superintendent of police of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with a prayer for showing him arrested in the case.
