Who’s your pick? Denver Why? I’ve struggled over this one, but I’m landing on the Pioneers. Georgetown is a much different team with returns from injury, and I expect the venue change will make this closer than first time around. But the Pioneers’ third-quarter surge against Villanova just showed me a lot to like about Denver. Alex Simmons has added a lot at attack, Jackson Morrill is the most inconspicuous star player ever, and even without Ethan Walker last week, the offense showed it can be marvelous. And, the way Jack Thompson has been playing deserves some attention.

Penn State Men s Lacrosse Drops Second In A Row, Falls To No 7 Rutgers 22-10

Penn State men’s lacrosse (2-6) couldn’t catch a break Saturday afternoon at Panzer Stadium as it lost to No. 7 Rutgers (6-3) 22-10. Too little, too late was the theme for the Nittany Lions as they didn’t start putting it together on offense until the second half. Despite this, Penn State could never really make a dent in the lead after a strong first quarter by the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers’ offense was just too much to handle for the Penn State defense. The Nittany Lions made a goalie switch from Colby Kneese in the second quarter, but brought him back in the second half briefly before switching back to Aleric Fyock again in the fourth quarter.

We’ve dubbed it “Midseason Week” here on InsideLacrosse.com. And, though that in some ways is silly given the unique nature of 2021, it’s shed light on just how quickly it’s coming to an end (and how many good All-American-caliber players there are). If you look at this post giving a status update on all of the conferences, you’ll see that things are being decided right in front of our eyes. The Patriot League, which only has four teams going to its postseason, spread across two divisions, could largely be decided after Saturday. The ACC is unique in that it doesn’t have an automatic qualifier, but with the strength of each team and the competition they face, they’re most likely all going to land in the NCAA Tournament. And, they’ve proven to be some of the most exciting games all season.
