Staff Debate: Who Should Be on Upset Alert?

Terry Foy (@TerenceFoy) Duke In my opinion, Lehigh, Denver and Georgetown are ineligible for this because the seeds don’t suggest a big enough upset. I’m so tempted to say Bryant vs. Virginia, a choice based on pedigree (remember Bryant’s win over ’Cuse in the Dome?) and the Bulldogs’ recent performance, but I think Virginia’s firepower is enough to dig them out of any hole, including being down four goals with 3:00 to play. I’m choosing the Blue Devils because I think it’s hard to get emotionally ready to play a team you beat 27-8. Keep in mind that the Panthers just inverted a 17-10 regular season loss to Richmond into an 11-8 SoCon final win. And don’t forget that Duke has a history of winning close in the first round, most recently escaping with a 12-11 win over the Spiders in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Staff Debate: Who Will be the First Round s Breakout Player?

Wednesday May 12th, 2021 10:30am Without fail, there s a player in the NCAA Tournament who breaks out when the lights are brightest. Usually they re not a complete unknown but that next man-up who takes advantage of a favorable matchup or just has the best series of games in their career. Who s going to break out this NCAA Tournament? Terry Foy (@TerenceFoy) Noah Lode, G, Monmouth  He’s gonna see a lot of rubber. I don’t know whether he’ll end up at 40% or 60%, but he’s 13th nationally in save percentage right now at 55% and, as a senior coming off of a conference championship, he fits the profile of a guy liable to have a career day. Keep an eye on senior defenseman Chris Hervada playing in front of him, as well Hervada scored against Manhattan and is averaging 2.9 GBs and 1.3 CT per game coming in.
