U-46 to recognize the top 2 percent of Class of 2021 graduates

    Posted5/7/2021 8:02 PM Elgin Area School District U-46 will honor the academic success and accomplishments of graduating seniors who rank in the top two percent of their class at 6 p.m. Monday, May 10, inside the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. The ceremony will be live-streamed and archived on the School District U-46 YouTube channel. The 47 students are the top-achieving graduates from the district s five comprehensive high schools, and they are also featured as part of the district s Class of 2021 website section, and through a series of social media posts.   Also Monday, the board of education will recognize Maggie Schroeder, a coordinator with Project Access, the district s homeless education program, which supports nearly 1,000 students annually. Schroeder identifies students in temporary living situations and assists them to enroll, attend, and succeed in school. Batavia teacher named Kane County Educator of the Year Susan Jones, who teaches at Alice Gustafson Elementary School in Batavia, was honored in a ceremony Friday as Kane County Educator of the Year.   Updated 4/30/2021 9:40 PM A special-education teacher in Batavia Unit District 101 was named Kane County Educator of the Year Friday. Susan Jones, who teaches at Alice Gustafson Elementary School, has been a teacher for 33 years, according to a news release from the Kane County Regional Office of Education.   She received a $3,000 prize from the ROE, to be used for a project of her choosing at her school. The ceremony honored nominees from the 2019-2020 school year, after last year s ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
