To ensure the safety of the community members of Public Order Policing conducted a stop and search operation in Makhaza, Harare last night, which resulted in a 30-year-old suspect being arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
During the early hours of this morning, members of the Provincial Integrated Team conducted a similar stop and search operation, also in Harare when another 30-year-old suspect was arrested at a local tavern in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition.
Both suspects are expected to make their court appearances in Khayelitsha once they have been charged.

The power under the hood was never going to be enough! Suspected hijackers in the Western Cape on Thursday night tried to outrun and outgun the police in an entry-level motor vehicle.
With serious and violent crime high on the agenda, police spokesperson Col Andrè Traut said members attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad were conducting crime prevention patrols in Lingelethu West.
A 42-year-old man from Bellville was arrested in Bellville in the early hours of Thursday morning after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The arrest was made 2021-04-29 at approximately 00:45 on Old Paarl Road, Bellville during a vehicle checkpoint which was conducted by members of Bellville SAPS.
According to reports a silver Honda Brio was stopped by the members at the checkpoint and searched. One of the members saw a face cloth at the driver’s side door covering an object. Upon closer inspection, it was found to be a pistol containing ten rounds.
The driver of the vehicle could not produce any form of firearm license or permit. He was arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were handed in as evidence.
