View Comments Several River Region officers and deputies earned the right to drop trainee from their title after a graduation ceremony at Montgomery City Hall.  Five deputies gathered together on stage and each raised their right hands as Sheriff Derrick Cunningham swore them in to serve the citizens of Montgomery County. It was a bittersweet affair as one trainee, Christofer Woodard, was missing. Woodard suffered a heart attack in December while training for the academy.  Prattville police gained two new officer while the Autauga County Sheriff s Office graduated one. The Alabama State University Police Department also graduated an officer.  The ceremony was the first of the statewide academy class for the year. In total, 41 officers and deputies from as far north as Madison County earned their certificates.
