Sebring, West Branch, United net funding for apprenticeships

The Alliance Review Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio received $150,000 in grant funding to expand pre-apprenticeships and alternative graduation pathways for their districts. Career counselors from the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio, participating districts, Ohio Carpenters’ Apprenticeship Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee, and Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania will be collaborating to offer this pre-apprenticeship.   Ten local school districts have partnered with the group to offer the building trades pre-apprenticeship in the 2021-2022 school year. Sebring, West Branch and United are among the districts. CANFIELD A preapprenticeship program will offer students in the Mahoning Valley opportunities to begin life after high school with no debts associated with college. The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio received $150,000 in grant funding to expand the program. The ESCEO is formerly known as the Mahoning County Educational Service Center. “This program will enable students to enter into a high-paying career with no college debt,” said Gary Hartman, services director for The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, which helped develop the program for local districts. Students completing the program will receive certificates for completion of carpentry projects, math for trades, trade-related career exploration and a carpenters’ preapprenticeship certification.

YSU announces speakers for May 7 and 8 commencement ceremonies

Lewis | Mahoning Matters) YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown State University announced that Ron Shaklee, Harold Danko and Kristin Fox will be the speakers at the three commencement ceremonies May 7 and 8 in Stambaugh Stadium. The in-person graduation ceremonies are scheduled for: 6 p.m. May 7 for all spring 2020, summer 2020 and fall 2020 graduates, whose commencements were held virtually and not in person last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic; 9 a.m. May 8 for spring 2021 graduates of YSU’s Cliffe College of Creative Arts, College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and Williamson College of Business Administration;  3 p.m. May 8 for spring 2021 graduates of YSU’s Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences and Education and Bitonte College of Health and Human Services.
