CANFIELD — A preapprenticeship program will offer students in the Mahoning Valley opportunities to begin life after high school with no debts associated with college.
The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio received $150,000 in grant funding to expand the program. The ESCEO is formerly known as the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.
“This program will enable students to enter into a high-paying career with no college debt,” said Gary Hartman, services director for The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, which helped develop the program for local districts.
Students completing the program will receive certificates for completion of carpentry projects, math for trades, trade-related career exploration and a carpenters’ preapprenticeship certification.
