Filmmaker Nithin Lukose on making his Malayalam début feature, Paka:The River of Blood

Still from the movie The movie is set in Wayanad and is about the feud between two families that has lasted generations Filmmaker Nithin Lukose grew up listening to his grandmother narrate stories of people in the highlands of Wayanad. “My family moved here from Kottayam in the early 1950s. Her stories were about the hardships of the people who migrated in that era,” he says. These tales are the inspiration for him to make his début Malayalam feature film, Paka: The River of Blood. The movie is set in Wayanad and is about the feud between two families that has lasted generations.“The place and the Orattu river there play very important roles in the film. As I am familiar with the place, choosing this as my setting felt right,” he says.

Mohanlal s directorial debut Barozz to go on floors in March

Source: PTI Mumbai: Superstar Mohanlal is set to begin the shooting for his directorial debut Barozz in March, cinematographer-filmmaker Santosh Sivan announced on Sunday. The film is billed as a big-budget 3D fantasy project and would reportedly feature an international cast, with actors from Spain, Portugal, Ghana and America. Sivan took to Twitter and wrote, Starting Barozz in March with Mohanlal in director s chair. The film is written by director Jijo Punnoose, best known for his 1984 Malayalam fantasy film, My Dear Kuttichathan , titled Chhota Chetan in Hindi. In October last year, the 57-year-old cinematographer had announced joining the project. Sivan has shot acclaimed films like Mani Ratnam s Dil Se , Raavan and Rajinikanth s 2020 action drama Darbar . The Malayalam film Jallikattu directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery was India s official entry for the Oscars from the said category. However, on the bright side, Karishma Dev Dube s directorial Bittu has made it to the Live Action Short Film shortlist. The Academy on Wednesday morning announced the shortlist for the following categories: International Feature Film, Documentary, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film. The shortlisted films will compete for the nominations.
