City of Detroit to launch door-knocking campaign to encourage walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations

DETROIT (WXYZ) â The City of Detroit will begin knocking on doors to encourage residents to get vaccinated at area walk-in locations.
The campaign will begin on Monday, May 3. Door-knocking will take place in neighborhoods around six vaccination sites.
âWe are knocking on doors because we want to get the word about our walk-in locations and make it easy for everyone to take advantage of these life-saving vaccines,â said Denise Fair, Chief Public Health Officer.

DETROIT (FOX 2) - The city of Detroit continues its push to get residents vaccinated with appointments no longer needed for the city s vaccination sites. It took less than five minutes to come in, fill out paperwork, and get vaccinated, said Jacqueline Turner.

The city of Detroit has officially opened four vaccination sites taking walk-in patients with no appointment required.
Turner says she had been putting off getting the vaccine, also known as vaccine hesitancy.

DETROIT – Michigan is being called the epicenter of COVID-19 once again as the numbers across the state continue to climb.
If that wasn’t bad enough, city leaders are now saying Detroit is seeing a new surge of COVID cases. This time those positive cases are in a different age demographic.
“I can’t talk about the Coronavirus affecting the people of Detroit without talking about how it affected me,” said Orlando Bailey.
31-year-old Orlando Bailey is from Detroit. He’s one of the hundreds of thousands of people coping with the coronavirus outbreak. Like many, he lost a loved one to this deadly pandemic.

The CDC has recommended Michigan go into lockdown, but both the city and state are reluctant to do so.

Amid an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases, Detroit and state officials are focusing on vaccinations instead of restrictions to mitigate the spread.
So far, less than a quarter of Detroiters has received the inoculations, one of the lowest rates in metro Detroit. The city’s vaccination rate is 25% compared to 39% in Macomb and 48% in Oakland County. About 128,000 residents have received at least one shot this year, according to Mayor Mike Duggan.

Duggan on Wednesday laid out the city s plan to ramp up vaccination awareness in Detroit with community forums, a door-knocking campaign and virtual tools to locate the closest of 24 citywide vaccine sites as vaccinations lag surrounding counties and the positivity rate has soared to nearly 21% from just 3.5% in late March.
