Legacy Lodge closure left families to move elderly loved ones amid pandemic

KJ Morris’ reunion with her father wasn’t quite what she expected. When Nye Health Services announced in January it would close Legacy Lodge, its assisted living center in Rafter J, Morris was one of the first to find a new placement. Within a couple of weeks she had arranged a room at The Homestead, a facility in Rexburg, Idaho. Morris’ father, Dave Schipper, had lived at Legacy Lodge since August, and because of the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and restrictions she hadn’t been able to visit. Education, economy vital I was disappointed not to receive a response from Sen. Dan Dockstader after I sent him the below letter of concern last week about how the Wyoming Legislature is handling our state’s economy. Our state’s future depends on the education of our kids and the ability to fund that education today, tomorrow, and into the future. Here it is: Hi Senator Dockstader, thanks for your time and consideration. I’m not sure if you heard the story on national news this morning about the sad state of economic affairs in Wyoming, and although this is not new news to anyone who lives here, I have a few questions:

Therapy animal visits on paws in time of need

Larazus the therapy cat loves sitting on the laps of the ladies at Legacy Lodge. They pet him, and he listens to them tell stories in return. “They’ve had lives that were well lived,” said his handler, Theresa Godchaux. “They were loved and they did love, and now so many of them are almost alone.” Lazarus, nearly 15, had been visiting the assisted living home every week to offer comfort to the residents. He was set to start going to the C-bar-V Ranch to visit kids with his 7-year-old Labrador retriever sister, Penny, but hasn’t been able to do any visits since March.
