BRADENTON, FLA. Three months after the Manatee County Sheriff s Office made the dreams of a 5-year-old cancer patient s dreams come true by naming him an honorary deputy, the department was honored Thursday by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody for taking extraordinary steps to forge positive relationships within the community.
Moody recognized the department with her office s Back The Blue Award, which recognizes exemplary community service. The honor comes after Sheriff Rick Wells designated Jeremiah Valera an honorary deputy after the boy was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma just before his fourth birthday.

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - A year ago, Manatee County launched its 311 call center in order to help residents with government services, but it has since expanded.
From Monday to Friday, Theresa McDaniel answers multiple calls with a goal to provide an answer.
âItâs pretty busy here,â she said.
McDaniel works for the Manatee County 311 center, which launched March 11, 2020. Its initial plan was to allow residents to alert county workers about things like potholes, broken sidewalks and other county services.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - A helicopter belonging to the Manatee County Sheriffâs Department caught the moment that a suspect hit a deputy with a stolen vehicle.
The collision happened Wednesday, after the driver fled after being involved in a traffic crash. Later in the day with the help of the MCSO Aviation Unit deputies relocated the stolen White Ford Taurus as it parked on the south side of Mad Marks at 30th Ave East and 1st Street.
