SAN ANTONIO An arson arrest has been made in connection with a significant southwest San Antonio house fire that investigators said caused major damage.
The fire happened the afternoon of June 8 in the 5500 block of Aspen Valley off Medina Base Road.
44-year-old Anthony Pestello is charged and remains jailed with a bond of $75,000.
The owner of the home told investigators Pestello, a neighbor, asked for a ride to a nearby store to buy cigarettes.
Man hit by vehicle, killed on Southwest Side

A man killed after being struck by a vehicle has been identified as 29-year-old Carlos Del Valle, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Saturday.
Del Valle was in the road near the 5700 block of Medina Base on the Southwest Side around midnight Friday when he was struck by a motorist, the San Antonio Police Department said.
The motorist, along with another witness, stopped to check on Del Valle. EMS also came to the scene, SAPD said.
Del Valle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to SAPD.

A man is under arrest in connection with a deadly hit-and-run. San Antonio police say Miguel Barbosa hit and killed a 15-year-old last night on Medina Base near Moon Valley and refused to stop. The 38-year-old s vehicle was discovered in a parking lot a short time later. Barbosa is accused of failure to stop and render air and a bond violation.
