NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) A sharp spike in ATV, snowmobile, golf cart and other vehicle purchases since the COVID-19 pandemic began has caused business to boom at Aluma Trailer.
“We are booked until next year. It’s been crazy busy,” said Mike Lloyd, president and co-owner at Aluma Trailer.
The company first started building trailers in 1992, and now produces about 300 trailers per week in its factory locations in Iowa, shipping across the U.S. and Canada.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) An employee at a Mankato senior care facility is accused of sexually assaulting a resident.
Authorities in Mankato said they were called Monday night to The Pillars of Mankato Senior Living on suspicion of sexual assault on a resident in their 80s with Alzheimer’s.
A relative close to the woman reported that he saw the assault through cameras located in the woman’s room.
Olabamidele Olumide Bewaji was charged with felony counts of criminal sexual conduct Tuesday in Blue Earth County District Court.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) Mankato could have a new internet and cable provider in the near future.
MetroNet is looking to compete with Spectrum, Consolidated Communications and satellite-based providers in the area.
The work will cost an estimated $266,000.
Mankato City Council members showed support during a work session on Monday.
However, Mankato isn’t the only city that is interested in MetroNet, with the city governments of North Mankato and Eagle Lake also showing interest.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) â Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz appointed a former Mankato Area Public Schools social studies teacher as the next commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education Tuesday.
Heather Mueller has served as deputy commissioner since January 2020.
Mueller began her career in education at Mankato Area Public Schools, where she taught social studies.
During her time in Mankato, Mueller worked as a continuous improvement coach, professional development coordinator and the director of teaching and learning.

“I’ve been happy the sidewalks have not been wet or snowy,” said Mankato resident Ethan Wirig, who spent Tuesday afternoon skateboarding. “I figured it would be a good day to come out.”
