MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Even for those eligible to get vaccinated the process of finding and booking appointments remains difficult for at-risk seniors.
That’s why more than a dozen health insurance providers have joined the Vaccine Community Connectors pilot in a national effort to get 2 million seniors vaccinated as quickly as possible.
America’s Health Insurance Plans and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association announced the new initiative.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) The 62 patients who received an improperly prepared COVID-19 vaccine dose at the Riverfront Hy-Vee in Mankato last week were asked to return for a corrected dose.
Hy-Vee says they had an oversight when administering the first dose of its Pfizer vaccine. They say two pharmacy staff members used vaccines mixed with a sterile water injection diluted, rather than the saline diluent provided by Pfizer.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â Itâs the time of year we start thinking about spring flooding and what that forecast looks like.
This week we will have highs above freezing and lows below freezing â conditions leading to a slow, ideal snowmelt scenario.
âThe outlook for spring flooding seems to be much lower than in a typical year. And thatâs a big change from what weâve had the last several years,â said Mike Welvaert, senior hydrologist at the North Central River Forecast Center.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) Since the large spike seen in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving, there has been a dramatic decrease in positive tests in our area.
While things are improving, the Minnesota Department of Health cites a concerning up-tick of cases in south central Minnesota.
“We have a testing site in Mankato, a free site that anyone can go to. Testing at that site was over 10% compared to the statewide average, which is 3.6%,” MDH Assistant Commissioner Dan Huff said.
