Vaccination clinics are available:
• In Collinsville: May 1-4 at the Gateway Convention Center, 1 Gateway Drive, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early appointments are offered 6:30-9 a.m. May 3, as well as late appointments 5-7 p.m.
• In Hamel: May 4, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Hamel Community Center, 10 Park Ave.
• In Bethalto: May 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bethalto American Legion, 109 S. Prairie St.
• In Edwardsville: May 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosted by the Edwardsville American Legion, at the On the Hill Golf Course, 58 Illinois 157.
• In Highland: May 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Weinheimer Community Center, 1100 Main St.

And those who are unvaccinated also can go outside without masks in some situations.
The new guidance represents another carefully calibrated step on the road back to normal from the coronavirus outbreak that has killed more than 570,000 people in U.S.
For most of the past year, the CDC had been advising Americans to wear masks outdoors if they are within 6 feet of one another.
“Today, I hope, is a day when we can take another step back to the normalcy of before,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said. “Over the past year, we have spent a lot of time telling Americans what you can’t do. Today, I am going to tell you some of the things you can do, if you are fully vaccinated.”

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is preparing an update for people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to allow them to shed masks when taking part in outdoor activities. However, masks would still be required for large groups outside.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that, because of the increased number of COVID-19 vaccines, “the CDC made an important announcement: Starting today, if you’re fully vaccinated, and you’re outdoors, you need – and not in a big crowd – you no longer need to wear a mask.”

The clinic is planned 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. using the Pfizer vaccine.
Appointments are preferred for all MCHD vaccination clinics to help with planning, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments also are available April 28-29 at the MCHD’s mass vaccination site at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. On Thursday, April 29, the site will hold late hours until 6 p.m.
Anyone who is 16 or older is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
