State hopes vaccine expansion can help combat potential virus surge

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continued to rise in Illinois on Monday as the statewide seven-day rolling case positivity rate reached 3.8% for the third consecutive day.
The case positivity rate had not been near 3.8% since the beginning of February, when it hit 3.9% on Feb. 1, and then continued to decline throughout the month and into March.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported as of Sunday night, 1,581 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals, an increase of 229 from the previous Sunday.
County has lowest daily case total since June

WOOD RIVER Only 10 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 were reported late Monday by the the Madison County Health Department.
The figure is the lowest reported for any one day in Madison County since June 30. To date, the county has recorded 28,891 cases.
Late Monday the county was also no new COVID-19 related deaths, leaving the total at 483. The county reported 494 tests Monday for a total to date of 289,600. There were 18 COVID-19 patients in Madison County hospitals Monday, two on ventilators.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Tuesday reported a total of 141,831 COVID-19 vaccinations so far have been administered in Madison County.

WOOD RIVER Nearly 140,000 COVID-19 vaccinations now have been administered in Madison County, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The IDPH on Monday reported a total of 138,848 COVID-19 vaccinations so far have been administered in Madison County.
That included 79,954 first doses and 58,894 or 22.27% of the county’s population now fully vaccinated.
The Madison County Health Department has said the actual numbers for both vaccination categories are higher than the IDPH figures.
