NIGERIA: Yola Diocese Commissions Estate for Resettlement of Displaced Persons
By Arnold Neliba
YOLA, APRIL 13, 2021 (CISA)-Rt. Rev. Stephen Dami Mamza, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yola, has commissioned Sangere-Marghi estate meant for the resettlement of displaced victims of Boko Haram attacks.
“This project is a tall dream come true since the Catholic Diocese of Yola first opened its doors to host IDPs since Sunday 15th September 2014 after the fall of some Local Governments in Northern Adamawa following the attacks of Boko Haram on local villagers,” reads a statement read by Bishop Mamza on April 12.
While sharing on the diocese’s seven-year journey of taking care of the IDP’s, Bishop Mamza disclosed that pressure started mounting in October 2014, when Mubi town and the environs came under Boko Haram occupation and thousands fled into Yola and were in need of food and shelter. St. Theresa’s IDPs Camp housed 4,700 persons.
Radio Free Asia relayed stories last week from a man given the pseudonym Li Yuese, who said he was beaten in a windowless room for nearly 10 months.
Li said he was detained after authorities raided his house church in 2018. “There were no windows, no ventilation and no time allowed outside,” said Li. “I was given just two meals a day, which were brought to the room by a designated person.”

Even for many of those who attend official churches, the five-year plan’s emphasis on the need to integrate Christian theology with socialist ideology is grating. It says quotations should be used by preachers to promote “core socialist values”. These principles should feature more prominently in their training. Interpretations of the Bible should become more sinified meaning, presumably, that they should help to bolster belief in socialism.
