Commissioners scheduled to take action on 911 Plan Tuesday

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A decision by the Branch County Board of Commissioners on a updated 911 Service Plan and bylaws for the County is scheduled to take place during their Tuesday afternoon meeting. Whatever differences there were between the Commissioners and members of the 911 Board seemed to have been worked out. Branch County Commissioner Leonard Kolcz expressed optimism during Monday’s Bronson City Council meeting. He said a meeting earlier in the day involving fellow County Commissioner Jon Houtz and a committee made of several 911 Board members went very well. Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman also felt good about the meeting.

Watkins will take over the position on the Board that was previously held by former Vice Mayor Bill Earl. City Manager Brandon Mersman is the City’s second representative to this board. Each community in the Fire Association gets two appointees, one vote per community and board members serve six year terms.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners will be asked Tuesday afternoon by cities, towns and townships from throughout the county as well as police and fire agencies to delay making a final decision on a proposed 911 service plan. A public hearing on the plan is scheduled to take place during the Commissioners final regular meeting of the year. Kevin Kearns from IXP spent two weeks in Branch County after being hired by County Commissioners in September. He reported there was a lot of tension in the current model and service plan. He also found out in his interviews that the tensions have been going on for a considerable amount of time.
