There were days when a glass of
t’ng nang teh or Chinese tea would accompany gratis with a meal in a restaurant. Then when charges were imposed, it started with five sen (when a plater of fried rice was RM1) and has steadily been increased to the present 60 sen in the Klang Valley.

KUALA TERENGGANU, April 10 The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has issued 84 notices against food and beverage premises operators nationwide for charging more than RM1 for a glass of plain water.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said all the notices were issued through Ops Catut 8.0 carried out since Wednesday (April 7) following complaints from the public.
“The operation will be carried out until April 15 by enforcement teams nationwide. Based on the number of notices issued, we find that this is quite a common occurrence.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Veterinary Services Department has conducted site visits to obtain samples from an egg producing company following the alleged discovery of Salmonella enteritidis (SE) in one of its consignments to Singapore.
The department said following a meeting with the management of Lay Hong Berhad Layer Farm in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, it found that only one of the 10 egg farms exported eggs to Singapore exclusively.

KUALA BERANG: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has assured that there is sufficient supply of eggs to meet consumers’ demand even for the coming Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid said the issue of withdrawal of egg supply to Singapore from a company in Jeram, Selangor following detection of the bacteria, Salmonella enteritidis (SE) in its eggs had so far not affected domestic supply of the commodity.
“The company involved has assured this as the eggs detected to contain the bacteria involved only one farm while there are still five of its farms supplying eggs for the local market.
