Eric Overbay (3G, 3A) had a career day, Keegan Khan played at his consistently great level (3G, 2A), and Will Vitton (16 saves) was sharp and helped hold off Providence spurts.
Two goals in the opening four minutes, from Patrick Daly and Khan, put Villanova on the map with an efficient start. Vitton played well early, with five saves in the opening frame, keeping the two teams neck and neck. Providence got one back after Vitton stopped an outside shot, but in a scrum in front of the net Matt Leader knocked it in.
