A Maury County man has been sentenced to a year in jail for falsifying his own military service record including the conditions of his discharge in a case of Stolen Valor.
Chris Wesley Williams, 59, appeared before Circuit Court Judge Stella Hargrove in Columbia on Tuesday where he received a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail along with a consecutive maximum probation of 11 months and 29 days after making false claims on his military record with the United States Marines.
“I hope this sends a message to anyone else out there that has lied about military service that it will not be tolerated in this district,” said Brent Cooper, the local district attorney whose office prosecuted the case.

The family members and loved ones of homicide victims gathered at a Lawrenceburg church for a night of remembrance, reflection and support.
Held at the city’s First Baptist Church and hosted by the office of District Attorney Brent Cooper, the gathering held Thursday evening offered an “uplifting” moment for families celebrating the holiday season without their loved ones lost to violent crimes.
The “Night to Honor” was the first for the region representing those in Tennessee’s 22nd Judicial District, which in past years has encouraged families to visit a larger event held annually in Nashville.
