A Maury County man has been sentenced to a year in jail for falsifying his own military service record including the conditions of his discharge in a case of "Stolen Valor."
Chris Wesley Williams, 59, appeared before Circuit Court Judge Stella Hargrove in Columbia on Tuesday where he received a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail along with a consecutive maximum probation of 11 months and 29 days after making false claims on his military record with the United States Marines.
“I hope this sends a message to anyone else out there that has lied about military service — that it will not be tolerated in this district,” said Brent Cooper, the local district attorney whose office prosecuted the case.
