Raines s charge downgraded to misdemeanor

Jump to navigation By  08/04/2021 The former superintendent of Shoreline Unified School District, Bob Raines, has been charged with a misdemeanor for molesting a 9-year-old boy a downgrade from the suspected felony that prompted his arrest on June 8 for lewd acts with a child under the age of 14.  The misdemeanor charge does not require touch; under its definition, words may constitute an annoyance or molestation. The law refers to conduct that is motivated by sexual interest in a child or in children generally, and which could disturb or be observed by a child. The charge comes with up to one year in county jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000. If convicted, Mr. Raines would have to register as a sex offender. His arraignment plea is set for Aug. 18.

Jump to navigation By  06/09/2021 Bob Raines, the superintendent of the Shoreline Unified School District for the last five years, was arrested on Tuesday for lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. The district reported the incident to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office a week earlier and placed Mr. Raines on administrative leave. Detectives developed probable cause, and Mr. Raines was arrested at his home in Petaluma, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. He was released on $50,000 bail and is denying the allegations against him. Mr. Raines was set to retire at the end of the month after a 43-year career in education.

The girl told the Marin County Sheriff s Office she was attacked on Feb. 1 in a wooded area near Mount Rainier Drive, the newspaper reported. She described to authorities a man emerging from behind some bushes and grabbing her but that she was able to get away. The sheriff’s office increased patrols in the area based on the report and released a sketch based on the girl’s description of the attacker, the Journal reported.
