Although some wore red and white in honour of the Canadian flag, many also wore orange as a way to honour the hundreds of Indigenous children found in unmarked graves at various former residential schools in B.C. and Saskatchewan.

On Anthony Street, Linda Wales, who organized a small Canada Day celebration last year, was at it again in 2021. Although small Canadian flags were peppered throughout her and her neighbour’s yard, between them also hung orange leaves a symbol of the growing awareness of the number of Indigenous children forced to attend residential schools who didn’t return home.
