SkillsUSA continues community service in challenging year | News, Sports, Jobs

wscott@heraldstaronline.com The Brooke High School SkillsUSA Chapter has thanked the community for supporting the most successful food drive among those spearheaded by SkillsUSA chapters throughout West Virginia. The group also was recognized for its “sculpture” of much the food into a small Christmas tree and fireplace, complete with donated socks for Christmas stockings. Regent University Law School VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Former local resident Tracey Guilliams of Martinsburg, W.Va., graduated with honors from Regent University Law School with the class of 2020. She is a 1988 graduate of Brooke High School and a 1992 graduate of West Liberty State College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of science degree. Guilliams is the daughter of Susan Phillips of Beech Bottom and the late Honorable Paul J. Phillips. Guilliams is a grant administrator with Berkeley County Council. She and her husband, Tom, live in Martinsburg with their two children, Tyler and Tori. Tiffin University

The vehicle for that was the Recycling Coalition of West Virginia’s 18th-annual ReFashion Show, normally an in-person runway event held at the Charleston Town Center Mall in downtown Charleston, W.Va. This year’s event, however, was replaced with a virtual online version in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

April Eltringham, community wellness coordinator for the county’s health department, asked everyone for patience as the department awaits vaccine for members of the general public. Eltringham said after establishing a reserve list for residents seeking the vaccine, about 1,700 people signed up in less than 24 hours.

Staff writer ATV CONCERNS — Concerns about young riders of all-terrain vehicles led Follansbee Council on Monday to consider whether an ordinance regulating them is needed. (Photo by Warren Scott) FOLLANSBEE Follansbee Council may adopt an ordinance regulating all-terrain vehicles after hearing concerns from residents about the safety of young riders of them. On Monday Deputy Police Chief Dan Casto said while residents of the Parkview area have complained of ATVs dragging mud across roads,they seem most bothered that the riders will harm themselves. Fourth Ward Councilwoman Alexis Russell, who represents Parkview, said drivers have told her they nearly struck the vehicles as they crossed their paths.
