A great story coming out of the Utica City Football Club as a local soccer standout gets a chance to shine as a pro playing in his home city.
Issak Somow was born in Kenya but moved to Utica in 2006 when he was just 8-year-old. He played soccer at Proctor High School and after graduating played for two local colleges. At Herkimer, he led the renowned Generals in assists his freshman year and helped guide the team to the National Tournament semi-finals. He also spent time at Mohawk Valley Community College, were he tallied 39 points on 17 goals and 5 assists, including 6 game winners for the Hawks.

Proctor Alum Matt Welch Riding Bike From Oregon to Maine
On June 21, Welch started in Seaside, Oregon, and will bike coast to coast, all the way to Portland, Maine. He s already traveled over 770 miles, which is only about 15 percent of his journey as he said the route he s taking is about 4,700 miles.

PROCTOR, Minn. – After not qualifying for the 2020 summer Olympic Trials, Proctor High School alum Matt Welch was looking for a new challenge.
“I thought of this bike tour and three weeks later I’m on my bike and biking across the country. I’m really just getting started, I’m just getting warmed up right now,” Welch, who also ran track and cross country for the Rails, said.
Utica City FC signs local standout Somow for upcoming season
Issak Somow is a Proctor High School grad, who played for Herkimer College and MVCC before going pro.

UTICA, N.Y. - Utica City FC will have some local flavor this upcoming season with General Manager Tommy Tanner and Head Coach Ryan Hall announcing the signing of Issak Somow, Friday.
Somow, a native of Kenya, moved to Utica in 2006 and played scholastically for Proctor High School, Herkimer College and MVCC.
Over the past couple of years, the hometown product has played semi-pro for Krajisnik FC and professionally for Syracuse FC.
