Changes Made To Graduation Ceremonies In Two Local School Districts The ceremonies will now take place at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica. District officials say due to updated guidance from the State Department of Health and an increase in capacity limits, they’re able to move to a more traditional ceremony. The number of ceremonies will decrease from eight to three and increase the number of family members who can attend from two to four guests per graduate. The graduation ceremonies will take place on Thursday, June 24 at 10AM and Friday, June 25 at 10AM. In accordance with state Department of Health guidelines, all attendees and guests will have to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

Appellate Court Rules In Favor Of Utica School District

Following years of litigation, a New York State Appellate Court has issued a landmark decision in favor of the Utica City School District. The Utica School District had fought for years to achieve equitable funding for high-need school districts across the state. The district has argued that the state had not met its obligation under the State Constitution to provide a “sound basic” education to students due to many years of underfunding of state aid. The Utica City School District says it is is owed tens of millions of dollars by New York State due to the underfunding of Foundation Aid for over a decade.

Proctor High School principal Joshua Gifford informed the board that due to covid 19 restrictions the 2021 graduation would be spread out over three days. Friday, June 18th, Monday, June 21st, and Tuesday, June 22nd. On those days there will be three separate ceremonies on Friday and Monday, and two on Tuesday, with plenty of time in between for everything to be sanitized before the next ceremony begins.

Created: May 12, 2021 04:13 PM After months of waiting their turn to roll up their sleeves, 12 to 15 year olds are now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.  Many states will be using schools to get this portion of the population vaccinated. WDIO spoke to Proctor, Duluth and Superior Public Schools about their plans to vaccinate students. At Proctor Public Schools, efforts to vaccinate students 16 and up were underway Wednesday. Superintendent John Engelking said the district hopes to extend these efforts to 12 to 15 year olds as soon as Thursday with the CDC’s latest announcement. “We’re excited to offer this opportunity for parents and for the community. Certainly, we’re a community school and we want to make sure that we get back to normal as soon as we can and fighting this pandemic with a vaccine is certainly one way to do that,” Engelking said.
