The May gray is about to go away in greater San Diego

SAN DIEGO   The ‘May gray’ clouds that extended from the coast to the mountains Sunday in San Diego County will be mostly gone by early Monday, just as another spell of unseasonably warm weather is about to begin. The marine layer was thick enough to produce brief showers Sunday in places like Miramar Lake, which got 0.10 inch of precipitation. Light rain also fell during the Padres home game against San Francisco. But incoming high pressure will dry things out. San Diego’s high temperature is expected to hit 65 on Monday, about a degree below average. But it should be 72 on Tuesday, 74 on Wednesday and 76 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Rancho Bernardo.

Temperatures will hit 80 along the San Diego County coast on Friday

Print San Diego County is in the midst of a brief warm spell that will peak on Friday when temperatures reach the upper 70s to low 80s at the coast and the 90s in many inland valleys and foothills. The highest non-desert temperatures could occur in Escondido, which is expected to hit 93, and El Cajon, which will top out at 92. Even Julian will be hot, reaching 81, says the National Weather Service. Palomar Mountain will get to 75. The temperature will be 70 when the Padres begin play against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Winds will be light out of the west. Attendance will be limited to about 15,000 due to the pandemic.

Greater San Diego will rapidly warm up after the showers pass

Print Greater San Diego will rapidly become warmer than normal following several days of cool temperatures and light, sporadic showers, says the National Weather Service. A high pressure system is moving into Southern California and will lift San Diego’s daytime high to 72 on Wednesday, 78 on Thursday and 85 on Friday. The seasonal average is 66. The temperature is expected to be 75 when the Padres begin play against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Temperatures also will soar inland. Escondido will reach 76 on Wednesday, 86 on Thursday and 94 on Friday. Advertisement The weather will be distinctly different from Monday and Tuesday, when a weak storm from the Gulf of Alaska generated drizzle in some areas and brief, light-to-moderate showers elsewhere.
