Seniors Centre moving forward with much anticipated expansion

March 4, 2021   ·   0 Comments By ALYSSA PARKHILL Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The Caledon Seniors Centre is going forward with their much-anticipated expansion that will ensure more space and opportunities for events, programs and future growth.  The team is looking forward to seeing an expansion of roughly 9,000 square feet, which includes additional rooms for programs and events, and a brand-new commercial kitchen that will be able to serve 250 or more people. The non-profit organization began as a space for seniors to come and enjoy various programs and social, educational and cultural events. With the expansion of the building comes expansion of these programs for more residents to join. The centre is run by a team of staff and dedicated volunteers and has over 800 registered members.

Tributes to a much-loved Bolton Lion after death aged 82

Bolton Lions’ member Babu Roye pictured presenting a certificate of appreciation during the annual toy appeal ONE of Bolton Lions’ longest-serving and best-known members has died at the age of 82. Babu Roye joined the famous service charity in 1986 and had been a key worker in the Lions’ annual toy appeal and in the radio service it runs at the Royal Bolton Hospital. Mr Roye was born in India and lived in Kenya before moving to England to make his home in Bolton. After he joined the Lions’ Club, explained fellow member John Fairhurst, he was eager to “to take a full part in all of the Club’s activities.”

Bolton Lions Toy appeal 2020 delivers gifts to more than 1,000 children

HUNDREDS of children will receive gifts tomorrow thanks to the people of Bolton who have pulled together to save this year s annual Bolton Lions toy appeal. Businesses, organisations and individuals from across the borough rallied round ­ and not only did they raise more than £42,000 to buy gift vouchers and toys but also donated gifts making Christmas for 1,571 youngsters of all ages, Ray Stafford, President of Bolton Lions, said: “People have been absolutely magnificent. We could never have guessed that we would have such amazing support – we can’t thank you enough.” The popular appeal has been helping local families at Christmas for the past 37 years.

The Olive School s pupils giving back to Bolton community

Pupils at a primary school have come together to create gifts for those facing loneliness and hardship due to the coronavirus. Children at The Olive School, on Waterloo Street, have been taking part in activities and challenges to raise funds and spread kindness as part of their annual Festive Winder Gift Programme. Covid restrictions put a stop to many of the pupils usual activities but staff at the school still found ways for their pupils to make a difference this Christmas. The pupils were given the task of collecting new toys, to be donated to Bolton Lions, to put a smile on the faces of children in families facing extra hardship this year.
