PHOENIX A Chandler police officer killed when he was run over by a fleeing suspect was described Saturday as a caring man who served his community and his profession while showing compassion to those in need, including fellow officers coping with stress.
Officer Christopher Farrar, 50, died April 29, when struck by a stolen car after after shots were fired at a Pinal County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop and police pursued the suspect to a Gilbert auto dealership. A Gilbert officer also was struck and seriously injured at the dealership before the suspect was arrested.
Farrar worked as an emergency medical technician before working on the Chandler police force for 18 years, and current and former officers and others speaking during a memorial service at a Chandler church praised him as a giving person dedicated to his family, community and profession.

Gilbert Police Officer Rico Aranda suffered a serious head injury in the incident, according to The Associated Press.
A funeral service for Farrar began Saturday at 9 a.m. local time and was streamed live on the department s Facebook page.
Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan praised his colleague s passion for service and called him the consummate team player.
Officer Killed During Police Chase in Arizona
A police chase in Arizona on Thursday resulted in the death of one officer while critically injuring another, authorities said Friday.
The Chandler Police Department said one officer died as a result of his injuries after the suspect attempted to flee the lot of the San Tan Ford dealership with a stolen vehicle and struck multiple officers and one of the dealership’s janitorial employees.
Authorities have publicly identified the officer who succumbed to his injuries as Christopher Farrar an 18-year veteran of the force.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chandler Police Officer Christopher Farrar,” the department wrote on Twitter. “Officer Farrar was struck and killed by a suspect driving a stolen vehicle earlier this evening.”

GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) A suspect in a stolen car struck and killed one officer and critically injured another during a wild chase involving gunfire and multiple law enforcement agencies in the suburbs of Phoenix, authorities said Thursday.
Chandler Police Officer Christopher Farrar was killed and a Gilbert Police officer was hospitalized in critical condition, their departments said.
