Tell Tales 6-24-21 - The Beacon

Tell Tales 6-24-21 Nearly 100 golfers participated in the 32nd Annual Chick Schaffner Memorial Charity Golf Classic on Monday. As usual, it was a tremendous event. The tournament has raised nearly $300,000 for its signature beneficiaries Stein Hospice and the American Heart Association. Much thanks to our sponsors, especially Materion. My father was Vice President and Plant Manager for the Elmore facility from 1948 to his retirement and untimely passing in 1971. Billy Market just turned 60!!! Happy Birthday!!! Tell Tales 4-15-21 - The Beacon

Tell Tales 4-15-21 One more story about the late Bob Snyder. Back in the 80s, The Port Clinton Kiwanis Club used to have a day of fun and frolic with a Dave Wolf organized trip. One year, Bob offered the use of his boat. Sadly, Bob matriculated his boat over some active fish nets, which stopped him cold. Also, around that time period, Jerry Lippus, owner of Clinton Auto, located where Great Lakes Popcorn is today, ran a regular ad in The Beacon. Jerry was a bit of a jokester, and his ads featured a photo of himself making a muscle pose with no shirt on. His ads also used to have a bit of fun with his friends.

Robert J Bob Snyder - March 16, 1946 - April 3, 2021

“Bob Died.” … … Is what he requested his obituary read. Thankfully, we have the last word! Bob passed away peacefully at his home on April 3, surrounded by his beloved family. Robert J. Snyder (Bob) was born in Fremont on March 16, 1946 to Louis S. Snyder and Gertrude E. (Beier) Snyder. After his graduation from Clyde High School in 1964, Bob moved to Port Clinton (Catawba Island), where he met and married the love of his life, Linda (Krempa) Snyder. It was in Port Clinton that Bob realized his dream of entrepreneurship for the first time, taking over the Catawba Garbage pickup. He then worked alongside his father at LS Snyder & Sons Construction, eventually growing the business and taking over the day-to-day operations from Louis. Over the next 55 years, Bob worked as a contractor and developer of various businesses and organizations, and he served his country as a member of the National Guard.
