The Fairfield City Council met last night and revised the liquor ordinance to clarify definitions and descriptions for establishments selling alcohol. Several appointments were confirmed, as well, including Bryan Williams to the Police Pension Board; Andrew Miller to the Fire Pension Board; Cody Atteberry, Mark Turner, and Nicki Roethe to the Zoning Board; and Carrie Halbert to the Recreation Committee. In his report last night, Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith said the City Band will perform this season, and their first concert is scheduled for June 13th. He also said the three dogs involved in the attack last month that injured city worker Robert Kamp had been ordered euthanized by Judge Michael Molt. 56-year-old Wayne City resident Jerry Desch was taken to a hospital yesterday morning after being struck on East Main Street in Fairfield. The Farmland Assessment Review Committee will hold a public hearing for 2022 farmland assessments at 1 tomorrow in the Wayne County Boardroom, according to Supervisor of Assessments Jodi Poole. The final day to file a complaint with the Board of Review is June 23
rd. Poole also reminds people the deadline to apply for several homestead exemptions, including Senior Citizens Homestead Exemptions, is July 1

21-year-old McLeansboro resident Gabrielle A. Hopfinger pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony count of possession of methamphetamine yesterday in Wayne County Circuit Court. She was sentenced to 30 months special section probation, plus time served, and two other counts were dismissed per her plea. Hopfinger was also ordered to pay $1,500 in fines and court costs.
The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has named Brad Jesop as the winner of the 2021 Outstanding Community Service Award. He and Zurliene Enterprises, the 2021 Business of the Year, will be honored at the annual Chamber Dinner, which has been set for October 4

Illinois State Police say 21-year-old Richmond, Missouri, resident Rachel G. Paul was hospitalized after a single-car accident on Interstate 64 in Wayne County yesterday afternoon. She reportedly struck a guardrail and came to rest in a wooded area of the median. Her vehicle caught fire, but she was able to escape beforehand with non-life-threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police District 19 Commander Captain Nathan Douglas has announced the results of a Nighttime Special Traffic Enforcement Patrol and Roadside Safety Check in Wayne County from this month. Troopers reported 10 total citations and 42 written warnings in the sTEP Patrol and eight citations and 33 written warnings for the safety check.
