Thursday, July 29, will be the last day for Wellington Police K9 “Reed” as the department has announced his official retirement from service.
K9 Reed joined the department in 2012 and received his certification from the Kansas Highway Patrol as a Narcotic Detection dog in October 2013.
Over the years, Reed and his handler, Wellington Officer Bryan Stewart, has been involved in several hundred “sniffs” resulting in drugs, money, firearms, and other drug-related product being located.
In addition to his daily patrol duties, K9 Reed was a mainstay at local schools, events and always enjoyed a “pat” on the head from anyone. K9 Reed was a valuable asset to the Wellington Police Department and will be missed.
